Curriculum Development

Meaningful learning is the core business of our College and this is achieved through the development of curriculum that is relevant to the interests of our students. Lecture-style teaching is avoided and a student-centred approach is used.
Teachers plan lessons where students are actively involved in their own learning and the teacher is the facilitator of the learning process. Consequently, when walking past a classroom, the visitor can expect to see students engaged in discussing, debating, and constructing while using graphic organisers and effective thinking strategies to investigate and problem solve. While this type of classroom is exciting and vibrant, the learning is underpinned by a Christian world view that God is the creator of everything. Christian values, which are taught and modelled, infuse the atmosphere of the classroom where learning takes place in a disciplined and well-controlled but stimulating environment.

Problem solving is a lifelong skill

Students interact with and engage in a variety of tasks that have been especially designed to encourage higher order thinking (analysing, creating and evaluating) and innovative problem solving. Many of these tasks are especially designed to be open-ended, where students are required to generate a solution or response where there is no single correct answer. Activities involving comparing, contrasting, reviewing and applying are also tackled on a daily basis.

Every student is a unique and special creation of God

The Learning Support Department caters for students with special needs. Some of these are long-term while others require short-term intervention. When necessary, students are supported in the classroom. At other times students are withdrawn from the classroom to receive one-on-one support. Because it is our passion to see all students reach their full potential, student support plays a major role in our education structure.

Today's students need to be offered a variety of pathways

Because we recognise the need for flexibility, a broad subject scope and the ability to meet the needs of our students, the College offers traditional Authority subjects that lead to the gaining of an OP (Overall Position) Score and Authority-registered subjects that are aimed at preparing students for the workplace. These subjects are listed in the individual School information pages.
Students are also able to access School-based Traineeships which involve on day per week in the workplace and gaining of a nationally recognised certificate related to the area of training being undertaken. Many of these traineeships lead to apprenticeships and ultimately placement in the workplace upon exiting Year 12.
