Prep Prep replaced Preschool in 2007 and is a five-day week programme. The College will continue to monitor the need for a Transition class between Prep and Year 1. The Prep curriculum is a playbased programme with learning embedded through exploration and experimentation. The focus is on social and emotional competence, health and physical wellbeing, early literacy and numeracy and positive attitudes to learning. Junior Primary (Prep to Year 3) Our excellent adult / child ratios in these grades help maximise relationships and teaching and learning opportunities for our students. A focus on the teaching of skills and processes through hands-on activities that engage students as active participants enhances learning, developing a solid foundation for future progress. Upper Primary (Year 4 to Year 6) We have a strong emphasis on developing the individual in academic, physical, creative, social, emotional and spiritual areas with special attention given to values, attitudes and the whole child. Students consolidate and extend the foundations laid in Junior Primary through specific teaching of skills and integrated learning units taught from a Christian worldview. We provide the preparation and development of skills toward greater independence of students as responsible learners. PRIMARY SCHOOL FEATURESSpecialist lessons:Transition to Year 6 students have forty-five minute lessons in Music, Health and Physical Education and Library every week. Preschool children have thirty minute Music and Information Technology lessons weekly. Student Leadership Programme: Students throughout the Primary School are encouraged to develop as leaders. In Upper Primary students are provided with specific leadership opportunities. We have a Primary Student Representative Council made up of elected representatives from each class from Years 4 to 6. Year 6 is considered our year for leadership development, when each student is seen as a leader and an example to the younger grades. In particular, we elect and select sixteen Sport Leaders as House Captains and Vice Captains as well as eight Peer Support Leaders who are trained to help and support students throughout the Primary School. Student Support: In providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for children, we have designed a multi-faceted Student Support programme. Aimed at meeting a wide range of student needs from learning support to learning enrichment, we have a learning support team focused on early intervention, effective remediation and individualized programmes. We also monitor and analyse learning trends across the Primary School in order to more thoroughly prepare our students for learning success. |
"Christian education is all about allowing children to become all that God intends. I'm thrilled to be working with our great Primary team as we forge successful learning partnerships that equip students for a lifetime and beyond!" Chris Grehan, Head of Primary School (Prep to Year 6) |
